One of the largest online job markets is geared towards online writers. People who are willing to write anything from copy to magazine articles. Stories, poems, jokes, travel articles, recipes, the market is virtually endless. You can find part time work, full time work or you can choose to work by the piece. How much and how often you want to work is totally up to you.

If you intend to be a strictly freelance writer and submit articles to big magazines and newspapers you will obviously have to go through their editing department. You will also need to follow their format and requirements for any articles that you want to submit. However, there are many smaller papers and websites that are looking for good articles on virtually any topic that you can also approach online.

As an online writer you need to be savvy in your job hunting. Do not get taken in or scammed. Make sure that any company you intend to submit articles to has a good reputation. Check carefully into where they are located, who owns the company and how long they have been online. You should also go online and see if there is any negative feedback regarding that company.

Many small companies have been doing outsourcing on the net for awhile and only want to use job hunter services to contract their work. This way they can ensure that the quality of work is up to standard. They, like you, do not want to waste time. They do not want to wait for a piece that it not usable. You as the writer want to make sure that you not only get credit and recognition but get paid for any online work that you do. If you are looking at piece work you might want to consider using a job hunter service.

Due to the fact that the market for online writers is becoming more and more competitive you want to make sure that your work is always above reproach. This means that not only do you have to run all your work through a spell checker but you have to ensure that the grammar and punctuation is correct.

Never submit anything to anyone that has not been thoroughly proofread. It is all to easy to skip a word, or make a simple typing error that a spell checker will not pick-up. You also want to make certain that you do not overuse words in an article or use words incorrectly. Every good writer will also take the time to personally edit their work. That means reading and rewriting. You not only want to ensure that your piece reads well but that you take out any unnecessary parts or words. Make the article as perfect as you possibly can before you submit it to anyone.

1) Get a second phone line. This will pay for itself especially if you have children in the home who might either answer the telephone or want to use the phone. If you have one line that is strictly dedicated to the business, you can avoid problems. You do not want to miss an important call because either a customer was unable to get a hold of you because the line was busy or you don’t get a message because someone forgot to give it to you.

2) Get a Day-Timer. Block in as many things as you can as far in advance as you can. You should include all personal events as well as all business events. Remember to include all travel time that might be involved, and allow for any possible delays that might occur while traveling. By doing this you will avoid forgetting any appointments, double booking yourself or overbooking.

3) Have a back-up for your day timer. This may sound redundant, but just ask anyone who uses a daytimes and has lost it. They are completely lost without it.

4) Try to stick to regular hours. One of the big advantages of working at home is being able to pick and choose when and for how long you are going to work. But, you will actually find that you be far more productive if you try to wok at the same time each day. It does not matter if you want to work at night or early in the morning. If you get into a routine this will not only help you to focus on work, it will also help to let both family and friends know when you are working,

5) It is a job. Just because you are doing your work from home does not mean that you available to either clients or customers 24 hours a day. You have to separate your personal time from your working hours. Do not take business calls after hours. Get an answering machine or hire a service to take your calls after hours. It is up to you to let your customers know when you are available and when you are not. Do not allow a home business to completely take over your life.

6) Set up your office as an office. If possible it is best to have a separate room in the house where you can do your work. If this is not an option you might want to consider using a room divider to separate your work from the rest of the home. Make sure that any people living in the house respect that this is your office and that things are not to be disturbed.

7) Stick to business. When you are working, let your family and friends know that you are working and can‘t be disturbed. Do not take personal calls or stop to have coffee when the neighbour drops by. You will accomplish far more if you get right to work and stick to it rather than be faced with a constant barrage of interruptions.

Welcome to the age of technology. You can become a virtual assistant. Small businesses are now looking for virtual online assistants. These jobs do not require a lot of online skills but rather they are looking for people who have general office skills i.e. answering the mail and filing etc.

Each job will obviously vary to some degree depending on the requirements of the person doing the hiring. Your tasks might include anything from scheduling appointments to working with spread sheets. You might be asked to handle all of a companies’ e-mails or to bill customers. You may even be asked to do client follow-ups or billing.

Many of the jobs are temporary but some have the potential for long term employment. It all depends on what the employer is looking for. There are a variety of sites online that you can go to investigate different options. The company posts an add which usually lists exactly what you will be asked to do and for how long. They may or may not give an exact figure as to what they are willing to pay.

You then have to read through the list of postings and figure out which ones you feel are best suited to your personal needs. Are you looking for full time employment or are you a student looking for a summer job? You also need to take a look at what your personal experience and skill level is.

Some of these sites require that you take an English writing test before you are able to join and compete for jobs. This will give you a ranking number which any potential employer is able to check.

The big advantage of using a sites to help look for potential employers, especially if you are looking at doing short term jobs, is that you do have a mediator. This means that even if the company is not on the same continent you will have recourse of action available to you in case of any disputes about the quality of work, failure to meet deadlines or payment.

Your other option is to post your information about what your skills are and what you want to get paid for these services. If you want to simply book appointments and not do spread sheets you can include this kind of information in your personal description.

The great thing about being a virtual online assistant is that you have a lot more freedom to do the actual work. You can choose when and how long you are going to work, how often and exactly what you want to do. And you never have to bring the boss coffee.
